Cradley Then and Now started life as a "local heritage project to raise

the profile of Cradley and to promote and protect its heritage.”

The first meeting of Cradley's historical society took place at Cradley Library in Colley Lane on Monday, November 3rd 1997 and was well attended.  Since then the group has grown steadily and has over 100 people on its mailing list and a regular attendance at the meetings of between 60-80 people.

Because of growing numbers and lack of space at the library in December 2000 meetings were moved to the Park Lane Unitarian schoolrooms on Park Lane where the group was made very welcome and meetings have since regularly been held there.

Meetings range from presentations by visiting speakers to film shows, exhibitions, sing-alongs and much more entertainment. Tea and coffee is always served with helpings of bread pudding.  Meetings take place on the second Monday evening in the month, but on occasions are held at other venues about the village and during the winter months are held during the day time.

Over the years the group have been involved in publishing numerous works of historical interest.  Many of these can be obtained via the Cradley Links website.
